While you can now buy fresh guacamole at most grocery stores and food markets, making your own is simple and fun. All you need are the following.:
Ingredients for Guacamole
3 to 4 large Avocados
1/2 of a Lime
1 clove Garlic, crushed
1 Jalapeno Pepper, peeled and seeded, diced small
1 large Tomato, seeds and ribs removed and diced medium
1/2 Red Onion, diced small
Fresh cracked black pepper
Few drops of Tabasco
Fresh Tortilla Chips
How to Make Guacamole
1. Cut avocados in half and remove center seed. Place in a bowl and roughly chop the avocados or mash using a potato masher or fork. Squeeze the lime juice into the bowl and stir around to prevent oxidation (the citric acid in the lime juice will inhibit the avocado from turning brown as quickly).
2. Place the diced tomatoes, onions, jalapeno and minced garlic in the bowl with the mashed avocado and stir, being careful to keep the tomato pieces. Their colorful diced pieces serve as a garnish as well as adding flavor to the guacamole.
3. Season to taste with sea salt, freshly cracked black pepper, and Tabasco sauce. Stir gently and refrigerate at least 30 minutes before serving — and up to four hours — to give the flavors time to marry.
When it’s time to serve your guacamole, use a kitchen spatula to transfer it to a festive bowl. Try to lump the guacamole so that it stands up in the bowl — giving it height — rather than lying flat.
You can garnish the guacamole using a single tortilla chip place directly in the middle. Serve with fresh tortilla chips on the side.
